Trial Class - 体験クラスより

日本から花のレッスンにおいで頂いた志乃舞さん。三日間に分けて、花瓶を使ってのアレンジやコサージュ、ウェディングブーケの作り方を体験していただきました。花瓶を使ってのアレンジは花止めを何も使わず、正面を作リダしてもらいました。すっきりとしたラインがとても大人っぽいですね。コサージュでは、ミモザやカーネーションを使って弾む感じで。ウェディングブーケでは、とてもロマンティックで、志乃舞さん曰く“ぶりぶりな可愛さ”が眼を引きます。将来の夢を持ちながら、様々な事を吸収中の彼女。夢が叶う事を、ここロンドンからお祈りしています。
Shinobu from Japan had a three-day course here in London the other day. Vase arrangement, corsages and wedding bouquet were the topics on this special classes. The front facing vase arrangement had some majestic line and visual movement; sharp and sophisticated. The corsage with Mimosa and Carnation was a happy one. Her wedding bouquet was a super sweet, romantic style. Just the right size, too! She is stepping forward everyday to achieve her dream, and learning as much as she can now. All the best wishes for her dream. Good luck from here in London!

Front Facing Arrangements - 伝統的なアレンジを作って

イギリスの伝統的なアレンジの形の１つに、三方見のフロントフェーシングスタイルがあります。もちろん、このスタイルの練習も欠かすわけにはいきません。右上のエサーの作品では、白と青の組み合わせに、大きなギボウシで求心力をつけ、落ち着きのある作品に仕上げています。下段左の早苗さんの作品では、彼女らしい優しい色合わせに青い矢車草を加える事で、全体を上手く引き締めていますね。最近始められた和子さんとマリエさんの作品は、真ん中の段。左が和子さん、右がマリエさんの作品です。アイリスやチューリップと行った春の花を合わせ、色も対照的な黄色と青を組み合わせる事で、とても躍動的な作品に仕上がっています。下段右の真里子さんの作品。数種類の葉ものを使い、立体感のある、形良い作品に仕上げられています。
Front facing arrangements is one of the traditional English styles in flower arranging. Therefore, naturally, we make it during our classes. The top right picture is from Etheer who used white and blue in her work, with elegant Hosta leaves, which has added extra visual interests and weight to the arrangement. The bottom left picture is from Sanae; successfully defined the shape of the arrangement with beautiful Blue Cornflowers. Her colour combination is so HER! Kazuko, on the middle left, and Marie, on the middle right, who had joined recently, shared the same material of Spring Flowers; Tulipa, Iris, Stock. The contrast of Blue and Yellow brought vitality to the designs. The bottom left is from Mariko, who used several foliages in this design; Good shape with more visual interest in it.

Our New Colleagues - 新しい仲間達

９月から始まった第二期。新しい仲間達が増えました。智子さんと真里子さん。上の写真が真里子さんの作品。秋の陽射しの中に映える、クリームからオレンジ色の色合わせが素敵です。次の作品が智子さんのもの。プロテア等の入ったエキゾチックブーケを用いて作りました。グリーンの中に顔をのぞかせるピンクのプロテアが、いつもとは違う表情を見せていますね。ふたりとも始められたばかりなのですが、本当に花を大切に、そしてきれいに生けられているのが見ていただけるのではないでしょうか？
The Second Crew has started from September, and we welcomed our new colleagues here, Tomoko and Mariko. The top one is from Mariko. This beautifully combined colour scheme of cream and orange in this work shines in the clear autumnal light. Tomoko's work in the next one, with an exotic mixture including some Proteas. Its soft pink blooming among the gorgeous foliage, you get a different impression from the same 'can-be-so-in-you-face' Proteas.They have just joined in, and so good to see them showring their affection to flowers when they make their creations.

Bloomsbury Evening Class - ブルームスブリーの教室から

エサーは、教室開設当初からずーっとがんばっている人の一人。今日は彼女のラウンドアレンジをご紹介します。夏らしい向日葵と矢車草で彩られたこのアレンジは、花を始めた頃の作品。とても夏らしい、しかし丁寧に計算された作品です。かすみ草が、まるで夏雲のように花の間を泳いでいますね。
Ethaar is one of our colleagues who has been in the course from the very beginning. This is her round arrangement. She made this arrangement when she had very little experience, however, she made very summery and controlled arrangement. White Gypsophilia looks as if summer clouds floating above the field of Sunflowers and Cornflowers.

White Breath - 朝は息が白く

市場へ向かうバスを捕まえに、ポケットに手を突っ込んだまま急ぎ足。ふと息が白くなっている事に気がつきました。そういえばと、ふと見上げれば、街頭の木に広がる葉っぱも少し色づき始めています。
秋が、もうここまで来ていたんです。
Rushing to a bus stop, to catch a bus to Flower Market. My hands are still in my pockets; alone on the street in the sharp air. Suddenly realised my breath is frozen.
Trees on the street started changing the colour of their cloths, too.

Hampstead Morning Class - ハムステッド朝のクラス

次の作品はめぐみさんによるもの。クリームからブラウン系でまとめられた、華やかな中にも可憐さが見られる作品です。立体感のある作りが、見ていただけるでしょうか？バラの周りに丁寧に配されたアルストロメリア。あまり人気のない花ですが、実に美しい形をした花ですよね。

In this photo, Megumi made this bright, yet still soft arrangement with cream to brown colour theme. I hope the picture show its beautiful 3-dimentional effect clear enough. Alstroemerias around Roses show off the beauty of its shape here; shame some people are not keen on this flower.

Hampstead Morning Class - ハムステッド朝のクラスより

先週のハムステッドクラスでは、ラウンドアレンジの二回目に挑戦です。初めて行った花の教室で、‘まずはラウンドから作ってみましょう’と作られた方も多いのではないでしょうか？このラウンド、簡単に見えるかもしれませんがなかなか奥が深く、全体の姿及び配分を見ながら作らなければいけないので、なかなか難しいのです。作品はリカさんによるものです。かっちりとした材料を使いながらも優しい雰囲気を残しているのは、ソリダゴやフリージアの柔らかなラインを丁寧に活かしてアレンジされているからです。見るだけで元気の出てくる、’おいしそう’なアレンジですね。
We had a second Round Arrangement class last week in Hampstead. It might look easy to make. It might be your first ever made arrangement when you enroll into a flower arrangement class. However, you need to pay attention to shape and balance literaly 'All-Round'; it is not as easy as it might look. This one is from Rika. Flower materials she chose here were quite bold and flat, however, the finished design looked so elegant. The key to this is the arching shape of Freesia and Solidago; Rika succeeded in using the line materials so beautifully in this arrangement. It looks so 'delicious', too!

Church Pedestal - 教会の花

金曜日のワークショップで、教会に置くペデスタルと呼ばれる大きなアレンジの練習を行ないました。こうした伝統的なスタイルをこのワークショップで取り上げるのは希なのですが、‘やっぱり大きなアレンジも作ってみたい’という事で。上の写真では、教会内が暗くはっきり見えないのですが、それはそれは大きく、優雅に咲き乱れるアレンジをよしこさんにお作り頂きました。下の写真は、その前のステップとしてお作り頂いた、中くらいのサイズのアレンジ（それでも、結構大きいのです）。イギリスらしい、風格を感じる作品となり、歴史ある教会の中で、その存在感を示していました。
The theme for Friday Workshop was Pedestal Arrangemens for a real church setting. It is quite rare to take such a traditional design on board in this Workshop, but it is good to make something really BIG, as you hardly have such opportunities, unless you are working in a flowershop. Yoshiko made a huge but very elegant pedestal here. Unfortunately, the ambience in the church was too dark for the photo... The bottom one is a middle size arrangement in the same shape (yet, it still is BIG). The beauty of English Tradition is shining through the arrangement in the church setting.

Trial class - 体験クラスより

ホームステイ先のご家族の方へのプレゼントに、と体験クラスで毛糸を使った花束を一緒に束ねました。ニュアンスの違う２種類の白バラとカラーを使うのはお二人とも同じですが、出来上がりの形は個性が表れたものになりました。上の写真はゼンニョウジさんの作品です。彼女はハート形のフレームを作り、そこから流れ出すように花をまとめてくださいました。甘くなりがちなハート形を、上品なラインがしっかり引き締めていますね。次の作品はフルウチさんによるもの。ラウンドのフレームを制作しての花束です。ころんとした感じのバラの形を活かすような束ね方です。彼はこれまで花に触れた事等なかったのだとか。初めて束ねた花束は、丸く優しい姿を持っています。
お受け取りになられた方には、お二人の花にこめられた気持ちがしっかり伝わったと信じています。
We made Thank-You bouquets with yarn for the host families. The main material we used were 2 slightly different kinds of white roses and Zantedeschias. Even though the materials were the same, the finishing designs have their own characters. The top picture is from Ms.Zennyoji. Creating a herat shape frame, she designed her bouquet to be as if all the flowers were flowing out from her hands. A heart shape can be too girlish, but with its graceful line of Zantedeschia, it maintains its sophistication.
Mr. Furuuchi, the next photo, made a round frame bouquet. He assembled the flowers in a way that enhances the shape of those fat roses. Can you believe he had never done any flower arrangement before? I am so sure those bouquet did deliver their heartfelt thank-you to their host family.

Demonstration - デモンストレーション

先日少しの時間でしたが、花のデモンストレーションの機会をいただきました。これはそのときの写真で、ウェディングブーケ（のつもりなんです。そうは見えないかもしれませんが、、、ウェディングブーケなんです。）を作っているところです。とぎれとぎれにしか出てこない拙い説明を、優しい眼で見守ってくださった方々には、本当に感謝です。この他にもアレンジともう１つウェディング・ブーケを作りましたが、’花って面白いね’と言うコメントを男性の方からもいただき、その一言だけのためだけでも、デモンストレーションさせていただいてよかったなと思いました。

知らん人の前で話しをして疲れたけど、こんな嬉しいコメントをもらったので、心晴れ晴れで帰途につきました。

I was asked to do a bit of flower demonstration the other day. This is a photo from it, and I was making a wedding bouquet (well, I know, it might not look like it... but it is a wedding bouquet). My explanation was not eloquent at all, so it must have been really difficult to keep listening トwhat I was saying... Thank you for being so patient! I made an arrangement and another wedding bouquet on this slot. Later, I received a comment from a gentleman saying 'I have very little idea of the floral world but you made it fun too.' For　this emotion, just for this comment, I felt it was worthwhile making some work for.

Talking to someone I do not know with my poor English was tiring, but this comment really lifted me up. I was walking on the cloud on my way home.

Our new colleagues - 新しい仲間

先週から、新しい花の仲間をお迎えする事が出来ました。生け花の経験を持つ和子さんと、以前体験教室でご一緒くださったマリエさんです。お二人とも、自分で花を購入してデザインをするのは初めてだったので、少々戸惑われたとの事でしたが、いざ始まってみればお二人とも右の写真のようにしっかりご自分のデザインを作り出していただきました。花材はお二人で一緒に購入し、教室でシェア。だから花材は全く同じなのですが、受ける印象は少々違いますね。花は本当に不思議です。上が和子さんの作品、下がマリエさんの作品です。
Last week, we welcomed 2 new colleagues to our class in Bloomsbury. Kazuko has some Ikebana experience, and Marie who came along to one of our trial workshops before. They told us that they never had designed their own arrangements, starting from buying flowers. So, it was not a surprise they were a bit nervous. However, once the class kicked off, both of them made their own design individualy. They bought the material together, and shared in the class, so the materials in the arrangements are the same, but somehow they look individual. It is mystery of flowers. The top one is Kazuko's work, and the next one is Marie's.

Evening Class - ブルームスブリー夜のクラスより

夜のクラスのアドバンスの方々は、今回アシンメトリカルの仕上げを作製されました。右上の作品はくにこさんの作品です。透明感のあるクリームーオレンジを基調にまとめられています。葉ものやガーベラの花の向きを上手く調整する事で、アレンジの焦点をさりげなく作り出しているのが見ていただけるでしょうか? 真ん中の作品はキャロルによるもの。トロピカル・ジンジャーの花を大胆に使いながらも、彼女らしい深みのある色合わせを行なう事で他のトロピカルアレンジとは一線を画しています。右下の写真は前回も美しい作品を作ってくださった裕季子さんの作品。前回とは全く違った色合わせに少々驚きましたが、これがとっても大人っぽくまとまっています.ハラン（アスピディストラ）の使い方にも工夫が見られ、花の伸びゆく姿が美しく表現されている作品だと思います。
In the Advance Class in Evening course, we made Asymmetrical Arrabgements. The top right one is Kuniko's work. From Cream to Orange in clear tone, the design is coordinated well. You can see the distinctive focal area in her design, which is cleverly ceated with foliage and the direction of Gerberas. The middle photo is from Carol. With Tropical Ginger flowers, the design tends to be quite flat and loud. However, with her great eyes for colour, the design keeps its depth and quiet but strong attention in it. Carol's colour choice is so one of her strength! The bottom picture is from Yukiko, who previously made another beautiful design in asymmetrical. Yukiko used completely different colour theme this time. Although it is slightly unusual colour, the finished work is so chic. 2 aspidistra leaves at the back of the design are cleverly placed so that each flower in the design has gained speed and movement.

See you later - また会おうね

三重に生まれて、三重で育てられ、自分の町以外の人と知り合うなんて滅多になかった。
いまも、それほど多くの人と知り合う機会を持っているわけではないけども、そのほとんどがいつかは’さよなら’を言わなければいけないもの。
日本でもうすぐ花屋さんを開く彼女。写真の世界へ再び駆け出していく彼、そんな彼を微笑みながらしっかり支える彼女。イギリスに旅に来てまで花の仕事をこなす彼女。出来る事があるからと、紛争の続く国へ飛び出していく彼女。家庭をしっかり守りながら、自分の夢を花に託す彼女。長い一日の仕事を終えてから、重い荷物を抱えて花を作りに出向いてくれる人々。遠い祖国に親が待ち、この異国で多くの友人を見送り続ける彼。イギリスを後にし、外国に移住を考えている二人。自分の祖国に帰る事を考えている人々。そして実際に帰って、改めて花の世界に身を投げていく彼女。
それぞれの夢を追って、それぞれがこの地を通り過ぎていきます。みんな夢を持っているから、だからさよならを言わなければならない時が来るようです。
いろんな想いはあるけれど、それぞれの季節をしっかり生き抜いていく。それがリビング・シーズンズ。だから、さよならではなく、心からの応援を込めてSee you later.

Born in a small town in japan, and raised up in the same town. Rarely met anyone from outside. Even now, I do not have much opportunity to mix with a lot of people here, but I know I have to say 'Good-by' someday to those people whom I met.
She is openng her own flower shop in Japan. He is back in photography, and she is supporting him as his rock with smile. She does floristry work even she is on holiday travelling to the Uk. She is flying out to the country where is full of conflicts and risk, as she has something she can do. She is exploring her dream through flowers, as if she did not have a family to support, although she has millions things to do at home. She comes to make her own flower design, but that is after her killingly long day of work at office. He is looking after his friends here, while his parents are waiting for him in his home town to where you need 24 hours to get by air. They are pondering moving to Canada. Anyone who are dreaming of coming back to one's home sweet home town oneday.
Withe one's own dream, people are pass through this town. Because everyone has one's own dream, the time when I have to say Good-by might have to come.
This is LIVINGSEASONS: live up each season of life, bearing thousands of thoughts. So, let's not say Good-by. With my wholeherated cheers, See you later!

Leonotis leonurus - レオノティス

物忘れをしても、歳のせいにできるような年代に入ってきました。ちょっと悲しいけども、少し気楽になれるのも現実です。先日も、教室で注目を浴びた花の名前が、頭の中からすっぱりと抜け落ちまして、、、。レオノティスと言います。教室で、’必ず調べておきますから’とお約束もしましたので、ここでお伝えします。きれいな色で、不思議な咲き方をするのが良いですね。
さてこのレオノティス、いろいろ調べてみると、何やら様々な使い方があるような。いやー、花屋さんで売っててもいいんでしょうか？
Now, I can blame my age if I forget something. In fact, it is not the matter of IF, but WHEN these days. It is sad, but, I have to admit, it is slightly liberating. Anyway, I completely forgot the name of this orange flower during the class, again... Leonotis leonurus, it is called. Clear orange, with creature-like shape. I love them.
I did a bit of reserach on this flowers, and I found out that this flower had some kind of medicinal use... Well, is it OK to sell them in an ordinary flower shop??

Happy Wedding！ - ご結婚おめでとうございました！

白くて、ナチュラルなウェディングブーケが欲しい、と言ったナターシャさんのために束ねました。白のバラをオーニソガラムとビバーナムの実で囲みました。当日はお天気があいにくあまり良くなかったのですが、曇り空を吹き飛ばす二人の笑顔がすてきですね。
White and natural-looking was Natarsha's idea for her weding bouquet. White roses were supported by Ornithogalum and Viburnum berries in this wedding bouquet. Although the weather was a typical English summer weather on the day, their smile was shining like the summer sun!
